FAQ’s

What is CrossFit?

Probably the most important question of all, so we have made a whole page dedicated to this. Click here for details.

Is CrossFit for everyone?

Absolutely! All workouts can be scaled depending on your fitness or strength, although the concept behind CrossFit is all about performing “Constantly Varied Functional Movements at High Intensity” so if you don’t like pushing yourself for improvement then perhaps CrossFit is not for you.

But the only way to find out is to give CrossFit a go, so we encourage you to come down for a free trial class. To get yourself on the next class email us at info@crossfitquartermelville.com

Do I need to get fit before I join?

Nope, the best way to get fit fast is CrossFit!

We cater for all fitness levels and all of our workouts are scalable to where you are at.

What is a WOD?

The WOD (stands for “Workout of the Day”) which outlines the workout that will be completed at each of the sessions on that day. Every night at approx. 8pm the following day’s WOD will be posted on the website.

It is up to you whether you look, however it is recommended that you do not “cherry pick” your workouts and let the WOD determine whether you attend or not.

Following each session, the scores posted on the whiteboard at the box will be transferred to the website as a comment for you to review and record.

What type of training can I expect?

Expect the unexpected…..There are so many surprises in the world of CrossFit and that is part of what makes it so special. Just when you’ve mastered a new skill, something else will pop up that you’ll be stuck on for a while.

However the main components of any sessions can generally be classified into –

  • Cardio Vascular Training – Running, Rowing, Skipping etc..
  • Gymnastics – Body weight exercises such as push-ups, pull-ups, dips, sit-ups etc…
  • Weight lifting – Deadlifts, Squats, Clean & Jerk, Snatch etc….

For an idea of the type of Workouts we do each day, check out our “Workout of the Day” page here.

How long does the workout last for?

This is impossible to answer as each session is different. Some days we will focus on strength, other days we will practice our skills and then some days we will go long. The key principle about keeping the workouts “Constantly Varied” ensures that there is no ‘normal’ workout time.

However each class will run for 45-60mins which will include a warm-up and cool down component. Weekend classes may go longer from time to time but we will let you know this is advance.

Once I start CrossFitting, will it be all I talk about?

Probably! We’ve heard CrossFit referred to as a “cult” by outsiders who are surrounded by friends who CrossFit as they spend their dinner parties talking about the day’s WOD, the latest Rich Froning You Tube video or what colour Nano’s they will be getting next.

The truth is that you’ll soon realise what a positive effect it starts having on your life, be proud of the constant improvements you are making and amazed by the achievements of those around you, that you won’t be able to help yourself to start spreading the word.

But don’t worry about it, in our opinion there are worse things to be addicted to and the best way to shut them up is to get them down for a session, then they’ll be converted.

Why is CrossFit is more expensive than the conventional gym?

We are aware of the fact that CrossFit is more expensive that a typical gym where you can attend where you like and are left to your own devices.

However we also understand the importance of having qualified coaches pushing you through tough workouts while you are surrounded by a group of enthusiastic and encouraging people. I can almost guarantee that you would be hard pressed to find many individuals that can push themselves as hard on their own and actually enjoy it as much.

I think you would find it hard to find a member who questions the fees after they have started to see the effects on their life.
